Jakob Gasteiger è una figura centrale nell‘ambito della cosiddetta pittura radicale in Austria, una movimento artistico internazionale che dagli anni Ottanta indaga i fondamenti e i limiti del medium pittorico. La sua opera rappresenta in modo esemplare un atteggiamento in cui la pittura stessa diventa il soggetto – non più come supporto di contenuti figurativi o simboli, ma come riflessione sul processo pittorico, sul materiale e sulla struttura formale dell’immagine.
